Heroes actor to help create movie-game project for Dreamworks


Heroes actor Masi Oka doesn’t just play a geek on TV; he is one in real life. Now The Hollywood Reporter has posted up word that Dreamworks has signed to develop The Defenders, a project created by Oka about a group of teenaged video gamers who get together in real life to have an adventure.

The movie protion of The Defenders will be written by former PC Gamer magazine editor-in-chief Gary Whitta. In addition to the movie, Dreamworks is looking to make a game based on The Defenders. The idea came about while both Oka and Whitta played World of Warcraft and is said to be in line with family films like The Goonies. D.J. Caruso, who recently directed the movie Eagle Eye, is in talks to direct The Defenders.
